Are you looking for an anime full of excitement and fun? Then you should try watching ‘Haikyuu!!’ You will fall in love with the story whether you are a sports enthusiast or not.
When I first started watching this series, I had no knowledge about volleyball playing. But the storyline and chemistry of the characters hooked me up with this sport as well. And like millions of fans, I have also been waiting for Haikyuu!! Season 5 to release.
In this article, I will share all the information about the upcoming season. So, let’s get started.
First Release of Haikyuu:
Haikyuu first came under the spotlight as a shonen manga created by an ex-volleyball player Haruichi Furudate. In 2014, Production I.G studio animated the TV series. Since then, 4 seasons, 85 episodes and 5 OVAs have received love from their loyal fanbase.

What Happened in the Previous Seasons?
Haikyuu!! Season 1 showed us the backstory of two lead protagonists, Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama. Hinata decided to play volleyball after watching the “Little Giant” play for Karasuno High School in the Nationals. Hinata set his goal to study in that legendary school to play volleyball.
After studying hard, Hinata got admitted to Karasuno high. But when he was overwhelmed to join the volleyball club, he came to know that he had to team up with his rival, Kageyama, from the middle school tournament. Even though they became childish and started to prove who was better, gradually they started working together and invented the ‘killer quick strike’.
In the beginning, the Karasuno team seemed to lack the spirit to win the Nationals. But soon the whole team started putting their trust in each other. The upperclassmen tried their best to guide their juniors. New coach scheduled different training camps and tournaments with other top-notch school volleyball teams.
In the next few seasons, many new characters entered the story and mesmerized the fans with their talent in the court. All of them tried to get the ticket to participate in the Nationals.
In Haikyuu!! Season 4 First Part, Kageyama, Tsukishima, and Hinata attended different training camps, to sharpen their skills before the mighty Spring Tournament. Though Hinata wasn’t invited at first, he earned the job of a ball boy, only to observe the training camp. In the end, they formed several new techniques to face their opponent in the tournament.
The Second Part mostly covered the fight against Inarizaki High, the second match of the tournament. The game became a war inside the court and amongst the supporters of both teams. The cheering squad of Inarizaki showed their talent to throw the opponent players off balance so that they couldn’t spike properly.
However, Karasuno High boys struggled to find their way to the third round of the Spring Tournament and on another court, Nekoma fought against Sarukawa Tech High. Kenma barely succeeded to set the winning ball to make his team win.
Will there be Season 5 of Haikyuu?
Unfortunately, the production studio or publishing network hasn’t announced any official statement about the release date of the upcoming season of HaiKyuu!! Franchise. But I have found several reasons, by which it can be confirmed that another season is on the way. Let’s have a look at those reasons.
Source Material:
Since there wasn’t enough source material, the gap between seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 was 1 year, 6 months, and 4 years respectively. But luckily, the manga is finished in 2020 with 402 chapters and 45 volumes. The studio animated 292 manga chapters for seasons 1 to 4.
Therefore, there are plenty of source materials left to animate season 5.
Incomplete Story Arc:
‘S4: To The Top’ covered only the second round of the Spring Tournament. The National Arc still needs to be animated to quest the thirst of anime lovers. And also fans want to witness the fight of the ‘Garbage Dump’. So, the 5th season is a must.
Relation with Tokyo Olympics:
If the studio decides to give the anime the proper and clean ending it deserves, they should follow the Manga. In the original story, Hinata returned from Brazil to participate in the Tokyo Olympics as a Japan Men’s National Volleyball Team player.
As we all know that the Tokyo Olympics has been inaugurated, there is a high chance that the anime will also be released again to get the highest promotion.
Sales and Profit:
Only the manga had over 50 million copies circulating the world. And hundreds and thousands of people are fans of the TV anime series.
Other Hunches:
After the fourth season finale, the official Twitter account thanked the production team and gave a slight hunch that they are also looking forward to continuing the series. Again, the Music Producer Kobayashi also confirmed the recording for the fifth season.
Therefore, after analyzing all these theories, we can assume that the fifth season is happening. And it may release at the end of 2021 or in early 2022.
Social Media Popularity:
Haikyuu’s Official Instagram page has over 145K followers and 6.2M posts using the ‘haikyuu’ hashtag over the last few years.
122,902 people liked the fan page of Haikyuu Facebook. And several Facebook fan pages are formed by thousands of followers.
Haikyuu!! S4’s official trailer was viewed by 595,880 fans all over the world through YouTube.
Ratings:
The IMDb has rated 8.7 and MyAnimeList has rated 8.5 out of 10.
Awards:
The Crunchyroll Anime Awards in the Best Boy category was won by Shoyo Hinata, the protagonist of Haikyuu.

Even the real-life volleyball players confirmed that they could relate to the stories of the court in the anime.
