I have been a big fan of Batman since my childhood. I read all the comics I could find featuring Batman and watched all the movies multiple times. So, when Gotham started airing on Fox, I was the happiest person on earth.

First Release of Gotham:
Gotham premiered on Fox on 22 September 2014. The show revolved around the infamous city Gotham and the story of this city before there was Batman.

Parent Show:
The show was based on the characters of Batman Began by DC Comics in 2013. Bruno Heller developed the series to tell us the backstory of Gotham. Primrose Hill Productions, DC Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television financed the show to produce.
Fox hired Heller to write 16 episodes in order to make the first season. But then, the show gained immense popularity and they had to extend it to 22 episodes.
Storyline of Gotham:
Gotham Season 1 began with the story of GCPD (Gotham City Police Department) and the newly appointed officer James Gordon. After the unfortunate death of Bruce Wayne’s parents, James and his co-worker Harvey Bullock were tasked to arrest the murderer.
At the same time, a storm was coming over Gotham when the war between Carmine Falcone and Fish Mooney started arising as they were the major crime bosses. Then, another gangster Oswald Cobblepot became the ‘King of Gotham’ by killing Mooney.
Thus, in one part of the city, James tried to solve the crime cases and on the other part, the darkest days of Gotham were emerging. New villains started showing up and little Bruce grew up listening to the incapability of the GCPD.
Bruce decided to save the city by becoming a vigilante, obviously wearing a mask so that no one could recognize him. His butler Alfred helped this orphan rich teenager to seek justice.
Gotham Season 6 Release Date: [Update: month20]
When Gotham season 4 ended, Fox Entertainment announced that Gotham season 5 will be the last and final season of Gotham. Eventually, the last season premiered on 3rd January 2019 and finished on 25th April 2019.
Since the last season aired, there is no official announcement from Fox to renew Gotham Season 6.
The reason is, unfortunately, the ranking and average viewers both went down as the seasons proceeded. Around 7.56 million people watched the first season whereas only 3.68 fans watched the final season.
The producers and writer decided that the return of Bruce after the training as the Batman should be the perfect ending. Gordon tried his best to save the city and became the commissioner. So, the saga of the city without Batman ended with that and a new arc began with Batman.
What Was Special About Gotham?
Many viewers think that the whole series actually spotted the light on Gordon instead of the backstory of Batman. Therefore some fans want to see more of Batman and want another season of Gotham.
I think it was important to show the audience not only the struggle of Bruce becoming Batman but also how the villains were rising from the ashes every single time.
The experiments of processor Hugo Strange to turn criminals into monsters, the threat of ‘Tetch Virus’ and last but not the least the extreme attempts of Ra’s and Jeremiah to make Gotham a lawless land made the show worth watching.

Answer: No, it isn’t. The production team had the full authority to play with the plot. They reformed the characters of the comic but no scene was adapted from the comics accurately.

Answer: Yes, he is in the TV series. In Gotham’s finale, the Joker was revealed.
Why Was Gotham Season 6 Cancelled?
Answer: As I mentioned before, the popularity of the show was declining worldwide and so was the rating. Before it turned out to be a total loss, Fox decided to end the series with a decent finale.
Is there going to be a Batman Series after Gotham?
Answer: HBO Max will air the spinoff series of the Batman franchise in 2022 right before the release of the new movie. Many fans are expecting this to be what they wanted Gotham to be. Let’s see whether this new series can make us satisfied.
